It's been some time since I made a card, so I thought I would make one to celebrate my family' new home. Also, the real for reason I made this card is my friend challenging me to make a card for Stamping 411 and Pals Paper Arts, and with this card I killed two birds with one stone. Enjoy!

So Shelli Happy Birthday Creative Challenge

I know it's not hard to figure where I got the inspiration for this card (cover of the 2009-2010 SU catalogue). I haven't purchased anything from the new catalogue yet, so I used what I had to develop my card. The only things that are non SU: Adirondack Acrylic Paint and one little flower that's in-between the two felt flowers.

Also, I used my specially designed blow pen to make the splatter, and I must say it's works much better than the spritzer tool. I have tried the spritzer, but I had difficulty controlling the amount of ink so that's why I developed my own tool to create the splatter.

Happy Birthday Creative Challenge

I started to make this card just the other day. I had no idea what theme I was going to use until I was on Shelli Gardner's site, So Shelli, and saw that her latest challenge was calling for a Happy Birthday theme.

I haven't made a card that pops up, slides, spins in some time so before I started I decided to do a view master type card with a bit of a twist. The twist being when you hold a piece of red cello over the red stamped image it reveals the hidden blue image beneath. I'm not sure what to call it but the idea came from an old game I had when I was a kid and it had this method of revealing the answers to the questions in the game card.

Know Father's Day is coming up I wanted to stick to that theme for this sketch challenge from 2Sketches4You. The real challenge with any sketch challenge is deciding what to do with the design, but when I saw this layout it said "Skill Saw". I used tin foil to make a saw blade and sharpened my Giga Punch at the same time. It took me a while to come up with something that would look like a power cord. I found a piece of shoe lace and fed some wire through the middle, so I could coil it. I am so pleased with that part, because now it really looks like a power saw. Enjoy!!!

I really enjoyed Laura' sketch this week at 2Sketches4You. It has a nice simple layout and for me thats good, cause I had no problem coming up with a style to suit the sketch. With the big flower I wanted it to say "Look at me, touch me, love me!" I think the colours give the card the punch it needed. Enjoy!

When I first saw Laura's sketch at 2Sketches4You, I thought this is going to be tough. Initially I thought the sketch looked a little like a cow, then a persons bum came to mind. I finally came up with an idea that fit quite well. I know it's not a pretty card, but I think it's funny. The lollipop does have crystal effects on it, but, unfortunately it doesn't show up here. Looking at the card now I wish I'd added some taste buds to the tongue. Oh well, next time.

A Quick Fix For Gel Pens

Here's the long anticipated gel pen repair tutorial. I know I'm not the only one that loves and hates the white gel pens, and I know I'm not the only one out there with a stack of white gel pens that don't work. So I have developed a crude way to fix these pens and get what we paid for; WHITE GOLD!!!!!! Bwahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!

There's a few things you need to gather to do the repair. You need a white eraser, a craft knife, and the white gel pen (of course). In the first picture you can see that I cut a piece of eraser just bigger than the hole of the ink insert.

In the second picture shows the piece of eraser that will be a plug. I have just inserted the eraser plug into the ink insert. I know what you are all thinking square peg round hole, trust me it will work and save you money. Also in this picture you can see other plug that I have inserted, I just put another one in to show you it looks like upon insertion. You'll only need one maybe two plugs.

In picture three, I'm showing what I use to push the plug down deeper into the ink insert. So each time you push the plug, and ONLY A LITTLE BIT AT A TIME, your pen will work once again. If you push too much the ink will flow out quickly and destroy you work so test on a scrap piece of card stock.

In this last picture you can see a before and after. Now remember push the plug just a wee bit.

One last bit of info, I use the ink insert as the pen (I don't reassemble the pen) and I toss the rest of the pen bits.

Well there you have it, I hope this fix (not a pretty fix, but, a fix just the same)works for you.

So Shelli - Halloween Challenge

This is my creation for Shelli's blog (of Stampin' Up fame). For this challenge she has asked to create something with Halloween in mind. My card contains new and old stamp sets from Stampin' Up. I used 'Just Flying By' and 'Upsy Daisy', and when you look at the witch on the broomstick you'll see that there's a few characters missing. To get this to work I inked up the parts of the stamp I wanted and using my stampamalineruperthingy to get the image you see on the card. I really enjoyed this challenge, because it's not often I make Halloween cards.

Well here we are this week with a new sketch challenge from 2Sketches4You (awesome sketch again). This sketch really had me thinkin', because I liked all the samples from the design team which used acetate. I wanted to use acetate on my card and luckily I had a bit that fit the card. It's hard to see in my pictures, but its there. Enjoy!

The daisy image (on the old olive) was stamped using Versamark. I was going to use celery, but it turned out to be too dark.

I don't make too many square cards so I had a ton of fun doing this card, especially with my sock monkey set. I used stamps from five sets, some old some new and some cheap dollar store stamps. The card is quite busy, though I think it turned out just fine. I hope you all like, enjoy!

Today I found out from some kind comments on my blog that my card was chosen as one of the Fab Five cards this week. Congrats to Kristen, for her card was picked card of the week. Thanks to Laura (awesome sketch by the way) and Kazan for picking my card. This is so awesome, Fab Five, I like it it sounds like a super hero group. I'm quite impressed with the sketches from 2 Sketches 4 You, they're very uniquely drawn which adds a hip style to the blog. This is the second time I've participated in their challenge and I'm glad I did, it's a lot of fun. Also, this is the first time I've used rub-ons, which was a real life altering experience. I'm Stinkin' This is a Cute Card

I was having a hard time creating this card the other day, because I was trying to do something new. Well I think I came up with something new or at least I've never seen a layout like this before. Take a close look where the two coloured pieces of card meet in the middle. I used my new scalloped edge punch from SU then I put the scalloped edges together which made diamond shapes where they met. I really like this look and I know I'll use it again because it something different. Give it a try and let me know what you think of this technique.

I really wanted to come up with something new and simple. I am very pleased with these cards. I punched a 3/4" circle out of card and used it to dry emboss the part where the image sits. For the rings I used my 1", 1 3/8", and 1 1/2" punches. The only other tool I used was my homemade stampamajigthingamabobber. Enjoy!

My friend Diana had her birthday at the beginning of April and for a gift I potted forty suckers that were made to look like flowers. I must admit it was my better half's idea, i just made it happen. Also, the sucker flowers were numbered 1 to 40. I have to tell you that this was a fun project. Enjoy!

What do you do when you don't have a certain stamp image? You draw what you want, and in my case for this card that's what I did. I wanted to make this thank you card with a shore scene, but since I didn't have one I made up my own scene using Staedtler pigment liner pens. I'm sure everyone recognizes the birds from the Zoofari set, which I used because they really look like shore birds. The beach scene was much bigger than what is on the card. I tried cutting it down but i goofed, I cut the piece at an angle so i decided to tear it to the right size instead. Enjoy.

I just received an email confirmation telling me that The Crooked Stamper has completed one of my challenges. I am so impressed with this card that I just have to make a comment about it. Tombow Multi Glue

If you're like me and love adhesives as much as I do, then I know you'll really like the Tombow Multi Glue that's in the SU Spring/Summer '08 catalog. I know the glue is new to the catalog, but I'm sure it's been around for some time. I have to say it's awesome. The double ended applicators work very well, especially the pen tip which is excellent for applying beads to cards. Another thing I like is that the bond is very strong and the glue starts to set quickly. I also like that it works as a removable adhesive and I have found that works well for masking and templates. I didn't get mine from SU and by all means get it from them and they charge $5.25(Cdn.), but I got mine from Office Depot for $2.99(Cdn.) and it's the exact same. I know there will be a few SU demonstrators that will be upset with me, but hey we all have to save where we can (plus there'll be more money for stamps). This is a glue really is a must have, so get out there and buy one.

Way To Go!

Here's my card for my latest challenge. I chose to stamp 'Giddy Up' , and I think it still comes off being a 'Way To Go' card. I used Sahara Sand for the card, and Chocolate Chip and Cool Caribbean for the rectangular window. Most will recognize that I used Wanted and Rough Edge Alpha. Of all places to find nice ribbon, Wal-Mart, but they had this cool patterned grosgrain which works very well here. Last but not least a couple of brads to finish it off.

Build a Brad

What do you do if you don't have the
really cool Build A Brad Kit from
Stampin' UP, well you make your own. To make them you need a large brad with at least 1/2" on the face, a 1/2" hole punch, crystal effects and a sanding block.

The first thing you need to do is sand off the paint around the edges of the brad(This is optional, especially if the brad is a nice colour). Next, you need to stamp an image that you are going to use for your project and punch it out. Now since we are using Crystal Effects (CE) you need something to hold the brad until the CE dries. I used a roll of two way tape to support the brad. The last step is to assemble the brad, first put a drop of CE on the face of the brad and add the image you've punched out. After that's done cover the top of the brad with CE and put it aside to dry. Now your done, simple.

This way of making a Build A Brad works, but I'm still going to get a package of Build A Brads soon. They're really cool and not as messy as my version.

Since I haven't posted a challenge for some time I thought I would give you all a doozie. What you need to do is make a Christmas card with the layout given, easy. Maybe not, you need to use stamps that are not related to Christmas and make them like they were intended for Christmas. The only Christmas stamp you can use is for the sentiment. That's it, now have fun. Also, you need to use traditional colours. Now, that's it.

I just picked up my latest order on the weekend from my friend Carrie. Before that she lent me some of her Christmas sets so I could get a head start on making cards for the holidays, and not having many Christmas sets on hand this was awesome to have her stamps to use. Anyway, getting back to my new stamps, one set is the Stem Silhouettes. I decided to make a set of thank you cards as a small thanks for lending me her stamps(Thank-you Carrie).

I decided to use a really simple design and then I used my word window punch for the sentiment. Next I used my Crop A Dile that my wife got me for my birthday to add a large eyelet and then I used some brown/white striped ribbon to finish the card off. If anyone is a bite afraid to use or get a Crop A Dile, you have to face fear and get it because it really is totally awesome.

UHU-Purple Glue Stick Review

I received a UHU glue stick to review from Maria Filosa's UHU project. I was sent a colored glue stick made by UHU, I've seen this product in stores for some time and I have used it in the past. So far I've only used the glue stick on my cards and for that purpose it works extremely well. The glue goes on purple and dries clear, I really like this and I know most will agree because I can see where the glue is on my card stock. If you have put too much on you can see the purple glue and do something about it. The other advantages most people will like is it's non-toxic, washable and acid free. I only found one con for this glue stick and it's not a big con and it is that UHU should make the stick square, I really think that would be a good improvement and I would probably use it as my primary glue for card making. As is the glue is awesome, all the promises UHU states on the package are true. I've always found their glue does exactly what it says it will do.

I give it two thumbs up, it's worth buying.

A Little Inspiration, Inspired by Artistic Avenger

I just finished reading a post by Artistic Avenger and was inspired to share what I've done. The project that I made is a framed piece of art that hangs above my bed. The inspiration came from the wall colour as well as the new bedding my wife picked out. She was the one who suggested that I make something for our room and use the bedding for it.

Lately I've been having trouble with coming up with projects to do, and when my friend made her latest post on inspiration it reminded me to look around and find something that will give me a spark to create. I hope this will help you to find inspiration in things you have around the home.

Sunday Sketch Challenge on a Tuesday.

Wow am I late or what? My wife kept asking me if I had done my challenge and as usual I kept on forgetting, this is why I'm so late. This isn't technically a sketch challenge, but a challenge it is. For this weeks challenge (Challenge #22) you need to come up with your own design and colours. The challenge part is to do watercolouring.

Here's my creation. I used Basic Gray, Really Rust and Certainly Celery. My good friend Carrie gave me some Basic Gray card stock to try until mine is delivered, she's so nice! Thanks Carrie! Next, I used a flower stamp from Oh, So Lovely, then I used my aqua-painter to do the watercolouring. The other stamp sets I used were my Canvas BG and Artfully Asian.

Here's my creation, I'm glad I chose to do a tri-fold card because it's something I don't do too often. I really like my new scallop punch and I thought I would layer a few circles together, the effect is pretty cool. I hope everyone has enjoyed this challenge. Keep looking back for more.

I'm back from a mini vacation on Whidbey Island WA, USA. My family and I had a great time, it's such a wonderful place. Since I was there of course I had to find a scrapbook shop, the one I did find is the Creative Heart. The shop is very nicely set up and everything that I wanted was there and more, and the owner(Mary Anderson) and her staff are amazing. If your on Whitbey Island one day this place is a must do so you can fill up on some goodies. Now you are probably wondering what I got, well I not going to tell you. Just kidding!!!!! I bought a Marvy Giga Scallop Circle Punch, I stocked up on Basic Grey paper, I got some of the nicest brads I've ever seen, and some really pretty ribbon(Creative Heart has an excellent selection of ribbon). Also, Mary told me that Julie Ebersole pops in now and then.

CharmWarm is this weeks Featured Stamper on SCS. The card I picked from her gallery has a nice simple layout and the colour combo she choose is fantastic. In keeping with this challenge I stayed very close to the layout, but I totally changed the colours for my project. I used Bordering Blue, Real Red and Not Quite Navy. The colours in the designer paper on my card matches so well with SU's. Also, the Bodacious Bouquet stamp set has a similar appearance to the Designer Paper.

I really find the FS Challenge to be so much fun to do, you should check it out.

Aside from the sketch you will have to use Cool Caribbean or Soft Sky, Certainly Celery, More Mustard, Basic Black, and any neutral card stock you like. If you don't have a particular colour just use one that is similar. Also, for bonus points try to use brads, ribbon and a paper piercer.

Today I received an e-mail from a member of Ink-Stains.com. It's a smaller Canadian based version of SplitCoastStampers - with that in mind I took a quick look at the site. It was so fantastic I registered as a member. It's not formatted like SCS, where cards are listed under the stamp sets , but instead under themes. i.e. Get Well, Birthday, Summer, Fall, Anniversary. I really like this, since now I'm able to get inspiration by looking up specific themes. The other great feature is the monthly card contest with prizes!

If you're like me its hard to know where to start because there's so many awesome things. I'm really happy I joined Carrie's Stamp Club which starts this month. Can't wait to place my first order! I'm considering the Garden Whimsy set and the new scallop punch, but that's it, gotta budget!! It's sooooooo hard though, I WANT IT ALL!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! Man do I need a drink.

SCS Challenges

I used this card for two challenges, SC131 (Sketch Challenge) and WT120 (Ways to Use It Challenge). My friend gave me a set of designer paper (Dp) and I decided to use it for the challenges. Though the Dp isn't from Stampin' Up the colours in the paper match SU colours very well so I used Real Red, Not Quite Navy and Soft Sky card stock to match the Dp. As you can tell the layout is from the Sketch Challenge and for the Ways to Use It challenge I just had to use some ribbon.

I am very pleased, and thankful to see that many stampers are doing my challenges.

I did two cards for this weeks challenge #17, one is meant for a girls birthday and the second is a thinking of you card. In the first card I used Tempting Turquoise, Certainly Celery and Regal Rose card stock. The best thing I like about this card is the background stamp which I found at my local dollar store. Some of the daisies are darker from me using a Gelly Roll Glaze pen. You can't really tell from the picture, but the glaze does gives a shiny effect. Some of the other fun things I did to this card were using my white gel pen to add dots around the pink panther, and I used my round tab punch to make the brackets.

On my second card I decided to use the Trees Three set because its a set I really like, but never use as much as I would like to. I used Wild Wasabi, Kraft and Ivory card stock. Since I used the Trees Three set the card looked like it was meant to be a thinking of you card. I really like this card more and I think it turned out better than the first one.

I was trying to come up with something new with the Zoofari set and this is the result. I took the rhino and snipped the poor animal's horn off and drew in a nostril, and the result a HIPPO. Now everyone can have their own house hippo. Isn't he so cute!!!

This Weeks FS20 is Cambria

This weeks featured stamper is Cambria, so check out her gallery and you'll be glad you did. Here's the card I chose to case from her gallery. Her card is quite feminine, so I thought it would be cool to make a masculine version of hers. To make mine boy friendly I pulled out Treehouse designer paper. The colours on the Dp are ones I often use, More Mustard, Bordering Blue, Cranberry Crisp, Sahara Sand, and they work really well to make any masculine card. Cambria's card is very pretty and has a lot going on, like all that great stitching. I do wish I could do that too - it really adds a nice touch to her work. Anyway, my goal was to make it a lot simpler and just have a few touches, you can see I used my paper piercer and added some hemp.

Here's my submission for challenge #16. I kinda cheated on mine, I only used two solid colours, Tempting Turquoise and Certainly Celery but, I did manage to fit in some designer paper. As you can see that I chose Close to Cocoa for my neutral card base. No big surprise to see that once again I used Zoofari for my main image and I also used my Canvas background stamp. I'm not to sure about the doodling around the Zebra - let me know what you think. Oh and look another happy birthday card, how original for me to do a birthday theme. I really like the Zoofari set cause it really lends itself to do watercolouring with it. Lots of fun!

Second rule is that none of the colours you picked can be the card base. You'll need to pick a neutral colour for the base piece, which could be Vanilla, White, Ivory, Sahara Sand.

Masculine Blues......

I have come across many comments on SCS that have to do with people having trouble making Masculine cards. To be honest being a masculine dude man, I have had trouble as well. I have found that the new 'Zoofari' as well as some older sets like 'Wild About You' and 'Monkey Business' work very well to solve the problem. After all, all men are animals and in both these sets you will be able to make a card for all the wild animals in your life. Though you can make some very cute feminine cards as well.

I think everyone should get the new Zoofari set, it really is an awesome set. I'm glad I have it, i know this will be a set that I'll be using for many masculine cards in the future. Check out my gallery to see some examples.

Here's My New Ultra Exciting Scissors

Well when you look at these scissors a certain brand comes to mind. If you guessed Stampin' Up Craft and Rubber Scissors. I've tried my friends out when I purchased a mega load of Stampin' Up stamp sets from her. Stampin' Up's Scissors work amazingly well and I'm sure many of you have this brand and would agree with me. The scissors that you see here were given to me for Father's Day from my Mom and Dad. The reason why I received these is because my Mom has a pair and it caught my eye one day when I was over at their house for a visit. I asked my Mom if she could pick me up a pair when she was at the florist wholesaler on her next trip to pick up stuff for herself. The moment I saw these I thought of The Stampin' Up scissors immediately. I knew they would do the job, maybe not better but just as well. I have to say I was right, they cut through rubber like it wasn't there. These scissors are ultra sharp and no child should ever use them.
The scissors are made by Clauss and the two are actually corsage snips. One is a 7" blade and the ID# is FSS7. The second is a 6" blade , but it seems much smaller and the ID# is FSS6 . Also, they do have a bit of serration at the base of the blades and I haven't had any trouble with it. Clauss also makes another pair of corsage snips and it looks as though they don't have any serration. That pairs ID# is NK75848 and thats all I know. I don't have a price cause I didn't think asking my parents for the price of a gift. Somehow I think that would be a bit tacky. So, there you have it a pair from Stampin' Up and Clauss, Both awesome and it seems its a choice you'll have to make on which pair to get. I think I should offer an explanation as to why I haven't purchased scissors from Stampin' Up, it's quite simple really I wouldn't be able to purchase as many stamp sets.

If you are going to get a pair of these scissors, try looking at your local nursery or maybe Home Depot.

I love making cards........

Here's the latest cards I have made. I received a lot of new sets from my family. I just love love them.....well yes my family and the new sets. LOL. The top card is made from Wild Wasabi, More Mustard, Regal Rose and Certainly Celery. I used My new Doodle That, My ever trusty Canvas, and bits and pieces of AYC1. The hardest part was deciding on what colours to use for the flower. I tried a few samples and it is a lot harder than you think or maybe its just me.

This Pick a Petal set is going to work out very well for me. I love mixing many colours together to make a nice and bright card. I used Wild Wasabi, Cool Caribbean, Pumpkin Pie, Tempting Turquoise, Certainly Celery and Summer Sun. One of my favorite techniques to use is paper piercing, it can add so much to a card. Give it a try if you haven't already.

I really like this last card. I was aiming for a masculine card and I think it turned out well. Zoofari is just soooooooooooooo cool, and those wee birds are just excellent. I used Old Olive, Tree House, Soft Sky and Really Rust card stock. I was so happy the watercolouring turned out so well.

There's one set that will never get old for me, and that is the Toy Box set. Every so often I pull it out and make a card with one of the many stamps in that set. This time I chose the little alien. This card really is a no brainer, simple layout and it's kinda cute. BARF!!!! Man I'm full of cheese.

As you can see above this is the outside. Sorry no models to show it off, waving their hands all over. The Price is Right wouldn't let me have the models.

This is the inside. I thought it would be fun with a pop out. Kinda fun.

Man....I'm falling behind!

I made this card for two challenges, one is for a SCS challenge (LSC119) and the second is for Challenge #14. The later is a challenge I do weekly for my friend's. This card applies to the SCS challenge because I had to make a card without using a typical background stamp. I used a flower from the Tagger's Dozen set for the background, which is just random stamps of the flower. The layout of this card is what I came up with for my Challenge #14 and the rest of the card was up to my friends. They could do any colour combo, any embellishments, you get the idea. My card was totally designed around the ribbon which I got at Old Navy, yah I said Old Navy. The best part is I paid 97 cents for the roll of three metres.

The reason why I chose the title I made for this post is because the SCS challenge is from last week and I just sent out Challenge #14 today. I was supposed to send it out on Sunday. AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!

Featured Stamper #18, Seewah

This weeks featured stamper on SCS is Seewah.
I had a much easier time choosing a card to make for FS18. I've had a pack of Sage Shadow for some time and I thought I better use some before the colour bleaches out. LOL. Anyway, I really like how More Mustard looks with Sage Shadow. In the end my card turned out very well, but Seewah's card is still awesome.

UHU Creativ- Craft glue for foam rubber & flexible materials

I received my sample of UHU glue the other day from Maria Filosa's UHU Project Blog. I got right to work figuring out what I could use this glue for. First I would like to say this glue is amazing what it can do, its bonding power is excellent and I love how it remains flexible.

Here's a list of uses I have found to work well for someone who stamps, scrapbooks, even general crafts:

1. If you have a piece of card stock that you're going to add to a card, take it and run a line of the UHU Creativ Glue the whole length. Next, take a piece of scrap card or a spreading tool and spread the glue to all edges. Let the glue dry, which doesn't take long. Now what you have is a re-positional adhesive on your card stock piece that you card place and lift up to three times before you start to loose stickiness. I love this technique because if you don't like where you put it, the piece comes up easily, but once the glue has set it's quite permanent. This use I described could come in handy if you're out of Sticky Strip.

2. The second use that I discovered is what the UHU Creativ Glue was intended, flexible materials. I had a stamp that needed repair where the rubber was separating from the foam backing. Also, I had another stamp where the foam was coming off the wood block. In both cases I would have use my Crystal Effects, but now you can save that for better purposes. This glue not only fixed both stamps but when it was dry it remain flexible which is very important for stamping to get a nice even image. Also, I should say I didn't prepare the surfaces either.

3. Now this third use is awesome. It has to do with ribbon, and adhering ribbon to a card or scrapbooking. What you need to do is take a strip of ribbon and run a thin and I mean thin bead of the UHU glue the full length of the ribbon or add a couple of small dabs at each end. Then you want it to dry like I stated before in use #1. Now its a easy a putting the ribbon where you want it, simple. This example would seem to work with those faux flowers everyone is using(something I don't have). You must a thin bead on the ribbon because if you put too much on it may seep through and show.

4. Other ideas I came up with but I've yet to try: fixing shoe soles, use it to patch a bike tube(smear a good amount onto a piece of kitchen wrap to make patch), children's toys, model building, attaching ribbon to homemade Christmas ornaments. As I come up with more I'll place them here.

The one thing that is a bother is the smell, so caution is needed to prevent overexposure from vapors. That wasn't a problem for me. Also, this product is flammable and it is recommended not to smoke while using the glue. The biggest precaution is to keep out of reach of children.

I have to say it was so awesome to get a free same of this glue and I had a fun time finding some uses for it. I think anyone stamping or doing crafts in general should have UHU Creativ Glue as one of their adhesives.

I just completed SCS Sketch Challenge #127. I'm not sure what I even think about it. The Designer Paper (actually vellum) is called Pickle from Stampin Up which is a retired design, but still its very cool looking. I really like the colours and pattern, but, what I'm not sure about is if its had its day in the sun. Also, its not easy to add extra colours to it and that makes it limiting. I find this card does look a bit barfy but at the same time I like it. Oh well, I'll just give it to someone I don't really like.

It cuts like a knife............Part 2.

This post is in response to some questions that have been asked. First, I was asked what type of mat I use. I use a self healing mat, I have used this flavor of mat for many years and have found it to be quite adequate. Though I do have a Fiskars mat that I use just for my circle cutter. The second question refers to how I actually cut card stock. I tend to go slowly and angle my craft knife while cutting, I find doing this makes cutting easier than having the blade perpendicular to the project. Cutting with the blade perpendicular to the work can make cutting jerky and your finished product won't have a nice smooth edge. So keeping the blade at an angle, and when you pause to reposition what your cutting don't lift the blade. Doing this makes your finished work nice and smooth with no jagged edges. This is how I cut, this may not work for everyone. Keep on trying and don't give up because your card or whatever project you work on will be worth it in the end.

It cuts like a knife...........

I have had many people ask how I cut out images (i.e. flowers, animals) that I add to my cards. I thought it would be a good topic to discuss, so in this post I'll show which craft knives I use and ones that no one should use. Also, I'll show some examples of my past work.

If you want to add an extra pizazz to your work then using a craft knife to cut out any stamped images which would be placed on your card with dimensional's (foam mounting adhesives). Here's a few examples to show how adding cut out stamped images makes a project look beautiful.

In this card I added the branch with flowers over top of the same image and it made the card so much more interesting. The stamped image is from Artfully Asian. This particular stamp is quite hard to cut out because of it's fine features.

For this project, an important dates book, I cut out many different stamped images to dress up the front of the book, which otherwise would be very dull.

On this card I was originally going to just stamp the image on the Whisper White card stock, but thought it was going to be too plain. However, I did stamp the curled leaf stamp in Old Olive, that's where I stopped and added some dimension to give the card some life.

Now, for the tools I use. You can buy the cheap dollar store craft knife, but the collet (the part that holds the blade) is usually made out of plastic, this is very inferior. This type of knife won't last long from the pressure that's put on the knife while cutting card stock. I don't have a picture of that type of knife because I don't use them, but I have tried unfortunately. The X-Acto brand knife is a very good choice of knife to use. The collet on the X-Acto knife is made of the same material as the shaft, which is aluminum. I find that the X-Acto knife is to small for my hands to hold and ultimately cutting can be less accurate. Changing the blade on this type can be difficult to change because the aluminum shaft sticks to the aluminum spindle piece (it's the part that locks the blade in).

This next knife I picked up at Canadian Tire. It is a craft knife, but I find it's too big for small jobs. However, I think it's good to have for cutting heavy card or chip board. The blades are easy to change, just sliding the yellow lock back is all it takes. The handle is also a storage for more blades, so they are always at hand.

The last knife that I'll talk about is the best in my mind. This craft knife is made by Fiskars. The handle is made of molded rubber which allows easy grasping and handling. It fits very nicely in any size hand and is very comfortable. Also, the handle is bigger than the aluminum craft knife, but not nearly as big as the one from Canadian Tire. The collet is made of aluminum as is the rest of it's parts. Replacing blades is easy, especially with the tension release at the end of the knife. After you put in a new blade you can tension it as much as you want and the design of this knife allows you to position the blade as you wish. The fiskars knife does cost a bit more, but it's well worth it. This craft knife is far superior than any knife I've tried.

I hope this was of any help, and helps cutting down (LOL, no pun intended) the time you spend on deciding on which craft knife to use.

Challenge #13

I made this card for Challenge #13. Every week I design a card for my friends to make. I come up with the layout and some of the elements they need to put into their card. Those elements can be a certain colour combo or a technique like doodling, but for this week my friends had to use two punches in any way they wanted. In my card I used my two oval punches to make a tag.

In this card I wanted the to use a colour that would POP, so with the Vintage Violet, Certainly Celery and Old Olive I chose Rose Red, against those colours it really stands out. Choosing the colours was easy, choosing the stamps to use was not so easy. I thought of using one of my favorite stamp sets, Bodacious Bouquet, so I started stamping berries using Rose Red for the central image. Next I used the leaf stamp to add lots of leaves to the Certainly Celery. I didn't want to use the same leaf with the flower, so I chose the leaf stamp from Best Blossom. I tend to make most of my cards for birthdays because there always seem to be one that come up.

Another One Bites The Dust..............

Tomorrow is my Father-in-Laws last day of work. So what better occasion than retirement, gives me a chance to make a card. He`s a very wonderful person and has done so much for me and my family, so the least I could do is make a nice card to celebrate his last day.

On this card I used colours that are suitable for a masculine card. I chose Not Quite Navy, Sage Shadow, and I found a sheet of Basic Grey Dp laying around and used a small strip. For the stamps I have the Best Bar Codes set, in it is a `congratulation you did it` stamp that fit the bill. Also, I have an old set called To The Finish and you can see I used the checkered flags stamp(the checkered flags seemed appropriate for someone who just finished working). For that accent I stamped the checkered on some whisper white card stock then with my X-acto knife i cut it out and glued it in place. The other embellishments I used were my usual brads and paper piercer. I really find it adds so much to a card and its so easy to do.

SC126- Todays Sketch Challenge

Today's sketch challenge on SCS is awesome. Also today is a birthday of a good friend of mine, Artistic Avenger. I don't know how old she is so don't ask.

Now back to the card, and as you have probably guessed it's her birthday card. I'm really please with how it turned out. First the layout is excellent, and secondly I really like the colours I chose to use (Chocolate Chip, Sage Shadow, Very Vanilla, and some Basic Grey Dp). I used stamps from the Bodacious Bouquet set and a dollar store find an Inkadinkado sentiment stamp. I always like to finish my card off with some added touches, so on this card I added a couple of aged copper brads. I also used my paper piercer to make a line of piercings along the bottom edge of the Sage Shadow piece.

Also, today I recieved some good news that I was accepted to be on the RAK group on SCS, and I'm the first man to have that honor. I hope all recipients of my RAK cards will like them. For anyone that doesn't know RAK stands for Random Acts of Kindness.

Both of these custom boxes were made as the gift wrap for a present, and I'm sure glad the recipients didn't tear them apart to get to the present out. I know that both are still in really good shape. After all they were made of double corrugated cardboard. In all each took me about one week to complete. You can see the theme of the boxes are well known, but every design on the box was hand drawn and then hand painted. As much fun as it was to make them I'm glad I don't make them too often.

Challenge #12

The challenge this week was to follow a layout (see card above), and to use black as an accent to make the colours POP. I send out a challenge to my friends every Sunday, then they have one week to complete their card.

For my card that I created, I used Cool Caribbean, More Mustard, Certainly Celery and Basic Black card stock. For the main image I used Love Matters and on the Cool Caribbean I used my Canvas BG. A bit of black gingham, some Stampin' Up (SU) markers and a few black brads later, I have the card you see above. Oh.....I took my paper piercer and pierced a line across the card near the bottom.
